Val Peterson

Val has lived in Lethbridge for 23 years.  She was born in Plön,  Germany;  the daughter of a well-known artist,  Bernhard Knoop.  She is a life time member of the Lethbridge Artists Club with a membership of over 80 members.  Val paints a variety of subject matter in watercolor,  including flowers,  landscapes and still life.  She has also painted landscapes,  flowers and portraits in oil and pastel.  She has always loved the outdoors and has hiked in the Canadian Rockies extensively.  Her goal is to capture the emotional experience of nature and to share it with those who appreciate her beauty.  She has been mesmerized by the Southern Alberta skies ever since coming to Canada and feels that with watercolor they can be copied the best.

Val has been teaching watercolor privately and at the Bowman Art Centre in Lethbridge for 17  years.  She loves to share her passion for watercolor and nothing makes her happier than seeing her students succeed.  Val has taken classes and workshops from many well-known instructors,  including Donna McLean,  George Alig,  Frank Webb and Carl Purcell.  She also took instructions at thr Red Deer College;  painting mainly outdoors.  There is always something different and exciting one takes away from each instructor.

Val’s artwork has been shown in many exhibitions and juried shows over the years in Western Canada.  Her paintings grace many private homes and businesses in Canada, the United States and Australia.
